Massive weekend ahead of us!

Saturday sees the running of the first Group 1 of the year with the Neds C.F. Orr Stakes from Caulfield, where I’m confident on one at MASSIVE odds. There’s nothing more exciting than the return of the elite equines at the start of the Autumn and Spring Carnivals, the anticipation of how horses will come back and what their main targets will be, will always keep the blood pumping through my veins.

The Friday night circuit, the racing and not the doof-doof clubs, fire up this time of year and no exception for tonight’s racing. Hobart even host their Derby meeting where I’m very keen on one in race 7. There’s also the hit and giggle of the T20 international too.

Don’t waste all your bullets on the weekend either, with SuperBowl LVI taking place Monday morning (our time). I always love an excuse to have a frothie on the early hours of Monday. Anyone else? Or should I talk to someone about that…?

Here’s how I plan to fund the big weekend:

Canterbury Race 2 – Hyland Race Colours Bm64 – 1200m

#4 California Surreal – $3.20

She did the job for us last start when bolting in her maiden at this track. This is tougher but she had plenty in reserve last start and with natural improvement, she can make the step up to 64 grade a winner.

Moonee Valley Race 1 – Schweppes Mdn Plate – 1200m

#6 Stromboli – $4.50

The very much in form Jye Mcneil takes the reins on this Hawkes trained colt who has had little luck in his two career starts. Both were at Canterbury in NSW and each time he was given zero chance of winning the race. He can position up much handier in this and with clear running over the concluding stages, he’ll be finding the line well. Looks right up to this.

Hobart Race 7 – G3 Kevin Sharkie Bow Mistress – 1200m

#3 Florescent Star – $3.60

Her last two starts have been sound behind the flying In The Boat. She draws an inside gate, and with the rail back in the true, it should favour leaders and fence runners. Her form should stack up very well in this, she’s a deserving favourite who probably starts shorter. Get on.

Caulfield Race 6 – G3 Carlyon Cup – 1600m

#8 Normandy Bridge – $3.90

We’ve seen most of the others and know their limitations, this guy is having his first start for the Maher Eustace camp after arriving from France. Whilst I’m no expert on his French form, his figures from those runs suggest he will be competitive over the mile first up in a race like this. His latest jump out was solid and expect further improvement come race day. He’s the only one I could back in this.

Caulfield Race 7 – G2 Rubiton Stakes – 1100m

#8 Marine One – $4.80

He has one thing most of his rivals don’t, and that’s fitness. He was super last start behind the flying In The Boat, who runs earlier and should give us a decent guide here. He’s got J Kah in the saddle and can race on speed.

Caulfield Race 8 – G1 Neds C.F. Orr Stakes – 1400m

#2 Cascadian – $21/$5.50

I must admit, he’s one of mine and a little biased, but I’m not sure how he can be $19 in this. Last prep when first up he started $6.50 in the Winx Stakes, he was flattened in the straight that day and only narrowly missed behind Mo’unga, finishing alongside Verry Elleegant. He’ll need a bit of luck from gate one as he will get back on the fence but at this price, I just have to launch, especially the place!

Randwick Race 8 – G2 Apollo Stakes – 1400m

#10 Colette – $6.50/$2.40

The key to this mare is soft tracks and she looks like getting one here. Her trial was solid and with Tim Clark in the saddle she’ll get a lovely run. There’s really not much more to add. If the track is wet, she’s a ripping each way bet.

Randwick Race 9 – G3 Triscay Stakes – 1200m

#4 Snapdancer – $3.60

She was dominant last start at the Gold Coast and with J Mac sticking there’s no reason to jump off her. She’ll bounce out and race on speed getting an economical run in transit. Just has to reproduce last starts effort to win again.

Doomben Race 4 – Stradbroke Season – 1350m

#5 Caffrey – $2.70

No need to beat around the bush, he should have won last start, jockey Jim Byrne got into all sorts of trouble in the straight. He was knocked over and after picking himself up he motored to the line to just miss. He’ll be very hard to beat in this.

Australia ($1.14) VS Sri Lanka ($5.75) – SCG

Hard to find much value in current markets but I did notice Ladbrokes are offering this promo that looks mighty enticing!

Cincinnati Bengals ($2.60) VS Los Angeles Rams ($1.50) – SoFi Stadium

Whilst I’m cheering the Rams, I’ll be having these two wagers on the greatest show on turf. It’s also worth noting that Ladbrokes have a Same Game Multi promo of ‘place a 3+ leg Same Game Multi on the Super Bowl LVI this Monday, and if 1 leg fails get up to $50 back in Bonus Cash.’

Firstly, I’ll be having a pineapple on this promo with Ladbrokes:

And these bets:

Novelty Props – First Gatorade Colour Poured over Winning Coach – Blue @ $4.50

Anytime Touchdown Scorer – Odell Beckham Jr. @ $2.25
