🌺 Anzac Day Racing. Lest we forget. 🌺

April 24, 2020

Unionists the country over will be outraged there’s no public holiday for ANZAC Day, but that’s probably because the boffins in the Bra (Canb’ra, not Marou’bra) decided we’ve spent way too much time relaxing at home already. They’re right.

There is something quintessentially Australian about gambling on Anzac Day even if two-up with your kids isn’t quite the mad afternoon at the RSL it would otherwise be. Still, there’s always a Zoom call with your mates while listening to the dulcet tones of Bruce Mac call a Special winner home on prime time TV to soothe the punting beast.

And even though Mooner is a pom, he reckons Anzac biscuits are hands down the best biscuits ever (no matter how soggy they got at his posh boarding house back home).

Lest we forget.

p.s. Please. For those of you feeling charitable (and you should) Anzac Day will be particularly hard for our veterans. Dawn services have been cancelled, many already suffer from PTSD and feelings of isolation, and our older vets will be doubly isolated with fears of CoVid-19 keeping them from their families. Whether you donate to the Anzac Appeal, to Legacy, deliver some groceries to someone you know, or just get your arse out of bed early to remember them – it’s up to you. #StandAtDawn

BEST BETS – HORSES

Sydney keeps the focus this week after The Championships, with the Hawkesbury Cup the feature at Rosehill (no that’s not a typo, it’s the plague), and we will be on Group performer, No.4 Unforgotten. Will be improving on firmer ground and loves the 1500m at Rosehill. Get amongst her at the $18 on offer. Our best bet of the day is R2, No. 6 Yonkers. Coming off a 6 week freshen up, Bowman on board and over the firmer ground, he looks likely to get this done at $4.40. Winning!

Hawkesbury Cup – Rosehill

R1: 1 Formentera – Broke maiden last start on a heavy track and step up here will suit ($3.20/$1.30)

R2: Yonkers – 2 from 3 this prep and looks the likely one here ($4.40/$1.85)

R3: 10 Grand Piano – Winkers on and back in trip should see a handy performance ($3.50/$1.65)

R4: 1 In Her Time – Short break but loves running here ($3.70/$1.70)

R5: 2 Graff – If he brings his best, he gets this done in handy fashion ($4.50/$1.90)

R6: 4 Bandersnatch – Coming back after a break from a handy summer and looks to get a good sit here ($9.50/$3.10)

R7: 4 Unforgotten – Dropping in grade and is terrific value ($18.00/$5.00)

R8: 6 True Detective – Handy form this prep and this looks to be the ideal assignment ($3.60/$1.60)
