AFL Round 20 – Punt Club

AFL Round 20

July 30, 2021

The race heats up for top 4 and top 8 positions in round 20, a few will be looking to maintain form whilst others are playing for their season. Carlton fans on making the 8 be like :

Ladbrokes are offering a $2 line for Friday’s clash between St Kilda and Carlton, be rude not to have a bet!

Friday

St Kilda ($1.53) VS Carlton ($2.50) – Marvel Stadium

Both come into this fixture having won 2 from their last 3 but it is St Kilda that have been playing the superior footy after just missing out on 8th place when narrowly beaten by West Coast. It is hard to see Carlton turning their loss to cellar dwellers North Melbourne around in a week.

Suggested Bet – St Kilda -12.5 @ $2

Saturday

Western Bulldogs ($1.07) VS Adelaide Crows ($8.50) – Mars Stadium

At opposite ends of the table and this should be one way traffic. If the Dogs are to be a threat this year they need to win this and win this well.

Suggested Bet – Western Bulldogs -38.5 @ $1.90

North Melbourne ($5.75) VS Geelong Cats ($1.14) – Blundstone Arena, Hobart

Geelong haven’t played in Tassie since 2007 and it is hard to ascertain how it will affect their performance, but what we do know is that the Cats are up and about, looking for 5 consecutive wins. North Melbourne were impressive when beating Carlton but losing Tarryn Thomas (23 disposals and 4 goals last week) will make things a lot tougher and quite possibly all too hard.

Suggested Bet – Geelong Cats -32.5 @ $1.90

Gold Coast Suns ($4.60) VS Melbourne ($1.20) – Metricon Stadium

Gold Coast blew a 29 point lead against the Lions in the QClash last week. The last time these two met the scores were level midway through the fourth quarter before Melbourne won 80-63. Shaping as a must win game for Melbourne but I’m tipping this one to be close.

Suggested Bet – Gold Coast Suns +25.5 @ $1.90

Collingwood ($2.30) VS West Coast Eagles ($1.62) – MCG

The Pies have lost Pendlebury for the remainder of the season and they come up against a West Coast side who will be desperate to remain inside the 8. Whilst confidence isn’t overly high, West Coast have a lot more to play for.

Suggested Bet – West Coast Eagles -7.5 @ $1.90

Essendon ($3.15) VS Sydney Swans ($1.36) – Gabba

Essendon were very poor last week when blowing a chance to solidify their top 8 chances and they come up against a Swans side looking for 5 wins on the trot. The Swannies are coming good at the right time of the year and can further their top 4 aspirations in this.

Suggested bet – Sydney Swans -18.5 @ $1.90

Sunday

Hawthorn ($5.50) VS Brisbane Lions ($1.15) – University of Tasmania Stadium

I’m not saying they can win, but I think Hawthorn might give the Lions a small scare in this. The Lions have previously shown that they haven’t travelled too well and besides the last quarter last week, I think it’s fair to say the Lions haven’t been at their best lately.

Suggested bet – Hawthorn +28.5 @ $1.90

GWS Giants ($2.75) VS Port Adelaide ($1.46) – Metricon Stadium

Two more sides with plenty to play for in round 20, GWS come into this in 8th spot and the Power in 4th. This shapes as a hard fought contest and if GWS can replicate last week’s performance, I’d expect this to be close.

Suggested bet – GWS Giants +12.5 @ $1.90

Fremantle ($2.50) VS Richmond ($1.53) – Optus Stadium

They both bring 8-10 records into this but the Dockers are 2-10 when playing teams ranked 13th or higher. Fair to say Richmond have been below their best but considering Fremantle’s record against fancied teams, the Tigers can get away with this one.

Suggested bet – Richmond -10.5 @ $1.90
