AFL Round 8 – Punt Club

AFL Round 8

May 6, 2021

With the Western Bulldogs tasting defeat for the first time this season against Richmond last week, it leaves Melbourne as the only undefeated side in the comp and lone leaders on the table. Can the Dogs regain their bark? Can the Dees continue getting W’s? All this and more, this week in the AFL…

Don’t forget Ladbrokes are offering a $2 line for Friday’s Grand Final rematch.

Friday

Richmond ($1.60) VS Geelong Cats ($2.35) – MCG

The 2020 Grand Final rematch. Richmond were able to upstage the previously undefeated Bulldogs without Dusty last week. Geelong went in favourites against the Swans but couldn’t quite get the job done. Don’t think there is much between these two. Cats with a start.

Suggested Bet – Geelong Cats +8.5 @ $2

Saturday

GWS Giants ($1.42) VS Essendon ($2.90) – Giants Stadium

The Giants seem to have their season back on track with their only loss in the last 4 weeks coming against the previously undefeated Bulldogs. In that same timeframe, barring the bloodbath at the Gabba against the Lions, the Dons have been consistent. Take the start.

Suggested Bet – Essendon +17.5 @ $1.90

Gold Coast Suns ($1.87) VS St Kilda ($1.95) – Metricon Stadium

These two teams often play in tightly contested affairs, in fact out of their last 4 matchups, the winner has been decided by 4 points or less. At home, I favour the Suns and we’ll back them to get the job done in a close one.

Suggested Bet – Winning Margin 1-24 – Gold Coast Suns to win by 1-24 @ $3.35

North Melbourne ($3.50) VS Collingwood ($1.30) – Marvel Stadium

To be fair to the Kangas, who I have been quite cruel to previously, they have slowly been improving, covering the line last week against Melbourne. Collingwood is yet to show much this season and only have 1 more win than North Melbourne. Dare i say it, but could this be an upset?

Suggested Bet – North Melbourne +22.5 @ $1.90

Melbourne ($1.30) VS Sydney Swans ($3.60) – MCG

Melbourne are the only team to remain undefeated thus far in 2021 and although the Swans look like getting some troops back, Melbourne can continue their fine run of form.

Suggested Bet – Melbourne -23.5 @ $1.90

Port Adelaide ($1.20) VS Adelaide crows ($4.60) – Adelaide Oval

Both teams are looking to get back on track after suffering big defeats. Of the two I am prepared to forgive Port’s defeat at the Gabba, which has provided a shock result or two. The Crows have mixed their form this season and if they are slightly off, this could really blow out.  Do we know if Eddie McGuire is cheering for Port in the prison strip!

Suggested bet – Port Adelaide – 30.5 @ $1.90

Sunday

Hawthorn ($2.75) VS West Coast Eagles ($1.46) – MCG

West Coast took care of Fremantle last week and no reason they can’t put two wins together here. It might be close early but barring bad luck, the Eagles can assert their dominance late and win well.

Suggested bet – West Coast Eagles -13.5 @ $1.90

Western Bulldogs ($1.35) VS Carlton ($3.25) – Marvel Stadium

The Western Bulldogs tasted defeat for the first time in 2021 at the hands of a determined Richmond side last week. As I always say to myself after I do my plums on a game, ‘It’s all about what you do next’, and this is true for the Dogs. I’m backing them to bounce back hard.

Suggested bet – Western Bulldogs -21.5 @ $1.90

Brisbane Lions ($1.22) VS Fremantle ($2.15) – Gabba

You can do a lot worse than just backing the Lions to win and win well at the Gabba. This is a tough trip for Fremantle and it shapes as a bridge too far.
Suggested bet – Brisbane lions -28.5 @ $1.90
