AFL Round 9 – Punt Club

AFL Round 9

May 13, 2021

Looks like a round that could be dominated by the favourites, we’re tipping each of the favourites to cover the line, except for one. Read on to find out who…

Don’t forget Ladbrokes are offering a $2 line for Friday’s match.

Friday

St Kilda ($3.20) VS Geelong Cats ($1.35) – Marvel Stadium

The Cats look to have found their feet after exacting some revenge when smashing Richmond last round. The Saints have been somewhat inconsistent this season with 4 wins and 4 losses after 8 rounds. The Cats can go on with it here.

Suggested Bet – Geelong Cats -18.5 @ $2

Saturday

Sydney Swans ($1.30) VS Collingwood ($3.50) – SCG

Collingwood will be without Jordan Roughead and Nathan Murphy who will both miss this clash due to the AFL’s 12 day concussion protocols. On top of that Jeremy Howe has been ruled out indefinitely after requiring surgery on a hamstring. The Swans very nearly beat the benchmark team in Melbourne last round, and at home, they can sink the boot into the Pies….and who doesn’t love seeing that!

Suggested Bet – Sydney Swans -21.5 @ $1.90

Hawthorn ($1.33) VS North Melbourne ($3.35) – University of Tasmania Stadium

There’s not a lot to get overly enthused about this match, one of these teams will secure a rare win at least. North Melbourne have a significant injury toll and have to travel to Tasmania but they have shown improvement in the last few weeks and I’m giving them a sneaky chance.

Suggested Bet – North Melbourne +20.5 @ $1.90

Gold Coast Suns ($3.50) VS Brisbane Lions ($1.30) – Metricon Stadium

The QClash sees the Suns host the Lions. The Suns task is much harder now with the suspension of Touk Miller and it looks more than likely that the Lions will improve on their recent record in these clashes.

Suggested Bet – Brisbane Lions -21.5 @ $1.90

Richmond ($1.50) VS GWS Giants ($2.60) – Marvel Stadium

There’s a bit going on in Tigerland…That said, after Richmond demolished St Kilda they have come up against an unbeaten Melbourne, then handed the Dogs their first defeat, then in the last round were overwhelmed by a Cats team back in form. If they can put their off field issues aside, this is a game that they can win, and win well. This club likes to respond to outside pressure and silence it with onfield performance!

Suggested Bet – Richmond -12.5 @ $1.90

Port Adelaide ($1.70) VS Western Bulldogs ($2.15) – Adelaide Oval

The Western Bulldogs started the season with a bang but the wind has come out of the sails a little the last fortnight. They have to travel to Adelaide and take on Port in front of their raucous home crowd. Port to cover the line.

Suggested bet – Port Adelaide -4.5 @ $1.90

Sunday

Essendon ($1.65) VS Fremantle ($2.25) – Marvel Stadium

Both teams come into this off the back of consecutive losses and desperate for a win. The Bombers might not have gotten the win last round but there are improving signs and they look well suited against Fremantle, who have struggled on the road.

Suggested bet – Essendon -6.5 @ $1.90

Melbourne ($1.30) VS Carlton ($3.50) – MCG

Melbourne have proven themselves to be the benchmark of the competition and remain undefeated in season 2021. Carlton sit 13th on the ladder and whilst they have shown good improvement in recent weeks, this might be a bridge too far.

Suggested bet – Melbourne -21.5 @ $1.90

West Coast Eagles ($1.08) VS Adelaide Crows ($8) – Optus Stadium

Adelaide face the tough task of taking on West Coast at Optus Stadium. This shapes as a game where the Eagles can get on the front foot early and potentially pile on the points in the last quarter.

Suggested bet – West Coast Eagles -38.5 @ $1.90
