Round 12 Preview

The Early game on Friday night is the game of the round with the mighty Panthers hosting the up-and-coming Cowboys. Asides from that blockbuster there’s plenty of other clashes to make a quid. Let’s get down to it, shall we!

Storm ($1.18) vs Sea Eagles ($5)

  • Hughes back for the Storm
  • Turbo out for the season for Manly
  • Storm don’t drop multiple games regularly

The Storm were humbled by a rampaging Cowboys side last week but the inclusion of halfback Jarome hughes will see a sharp turn around in their fortunes. The Storm just don’t drop back to back games, regardless of the circumstances. Manly lost Turbo last week with a dislocated shoulder and the news this week is he’ll miss the remainder of the season. Melbourne to bounce back and win well.

Panthers ($1.22) vs Cowboys ($4.25)

  • Game of the round!
  • Cows litmus test
  • Panthers at home
  • Is there a test to Penny?

The Cows stepped up another gear last week when downing the Storm. It must be said though that the Storm were missing key players, but on the flip side, the Cows lost Feldt and Lolo early in the game. The Panthers have been the number 1 team for a while now and we’ll get a good guide to just how good this Cowboys team is. I’ll back the Cows D and take the plus.

Broncos ($1.40) vs Titans ($3)

  • No Reynolds again for Broncs
  • Titans need to lift
  • Broncs got the win without Reynolds last week
  • Suncorp a big plus for Broncs

First instinct would be to dismiss Brisbane without Reynolds after they rode lady luck against a hapless Knights last week, BUT, the Titans are woeful. Coach Holbrook must be under mounting pressure as his team aimlessly wanders around the park from mistake to mistake. This has the makings of a real bludger but one that the Broncs can win well in front of a rowdy home crowd. The Titans don’t have any fans left.

Warriors ($1.70) vs Knights ($2.15)

  • Absolute bludger
  • Both 1 from their last 5
  • Walsh and Tohu Harris only highlights for NZ
  • Ponga needs to put his team on his back

Both these sides have played some of the worst football imaginable this season but there’s always cash to be made. One thing that is always profitable in the NRL year after year is opposing the Warriors as favourites. Yes, that means we’ll be hoping the Knights can turn up but they were ok in patches against the Broncs last week. Ponga scored a brilliant try when piercing the Broncs tired middles and he can have a field day against a team not known for their defence in the middle.

Rabbitohs ($1.40) vs Tigers ($3)

  • Cody Walker needs to lift
  • Both teams won 2 from last 5
  • Bunnies with a few changes
  • Laurie named to return for Tigers

The Bunnies have been struck by a fair few injuries especially with Latrell and Murray on the sidelines but their effort areas have been poor too. There’s no way to sugarcoat it, they’re struggling! The Tigers are no stranger to struggling either mind you but with Laurie returning and striking the Bunnies when they’re hobbling, the Tigers can get a much needed win on the board.

Sharks ($1.78) vs Roosters ($2.05)

  • Sharks last 5 reads: W-L-W-L-W
  • Roosters looking to avoid back to back losses
  • Both sides underperforming

Should be a pretty good game this. Both sides have mixed their form in 2022 but at their best they’ll both play finals footy. Problem is, they have both been well below their best in recent weeks. The Sharks seem to get heavy legs at the back end of games and the Roosters have looked all over the shop. This can be a high scoring game with both sides having plenty of talent in their backlines and questionable middles. Take the overs.

Bulldogs ($2.45) vs Dragons ($1.55)

  • Dogs in crisis!
  • Dragons looking for back to back wins
  • Who will coach the Dogs next?
  • Actually think the Dogs can win!

Two sides who have struggled for a few seasons now. The Dogs have been woeful for a large portion of the season but they get a few players back after this mysterious flu swept through the camp last week. They might have come out the other end off it now. The Dragons aren’t much of a footy side either, they are very reliant on Hunt to steer them around and I think the Dogs can keep him quiet. It won’t be pretty but Dogs to win.

Raiders ($2.65) vs Eels ($1.50)

  • Raiders are back!
  • Eels on a W-L-W-L streak
  • Raiders looking for 4 on the trot

We close out the round in cold Canberra where the Raiders are looking for their 4th win in as many weeks. The Eels have been patchy all season as evidenced by their win, loss, win, loss streak and after winning last week the science says they lose this…Seriously though, the Raiders have played some very good, and tough, footy lately and given the cold conditions, they can win again.

Good luck & good punting!
