Flemington Race 2 – Stuart Pettigrew BM70 – 1410m
#5 Forgot You – $7/$2.35
The new season gives us a look at a few new 3 YO’s in this. Last prep, Forgot You was very green on debut when beaten in a Maiden, before tackling two Group races and performing ok way out of grade. Two jump outs in preparation for this have been very good and the stable obviously have a high opinion of this Colt. Expect him to run really well.
Flemington Race 4 – VRC Member Julie Purnell BM84 – 1410m
#7 Lindhout – $2.70
She’s been up a while now but is holding her form very well, and I’m always happy to back a mare in form. She has a terrible pattern of getting a long way back in races and I would expect this to be no different. The big difference is Newitt jumping back on after the apprentice set it a bit of a task last start. Despite being back last, she’ll be the one to beat.
Flemington Race 6 – Hong Kong Jockey Club Open Handicap – 1410m
#3 Groundswell – $3.90
Competed well during the Winter Carnival in Brisbane and has had a small freshen up (8 weeks) for this assignment but should still be very fit. Should roll forward in a race where there doesn’t look an abundance of early speed. Jockey Damian Lane can further his good record riding for A & S Freedman (18.2% SR last 12 months) and get the win here.
Flemington Race 8 – GROUP 3 Aurie’s Star – 1200m
#8 Banquo – $7.50/$2.60
The first Group race of the new season in Vic, Spring isn’t far away! Banquo is no star but looks pretty well suited with Lane Sticking. I wasn’t sure if Lane would partner with Aysar or not first up (rode all last prep) and I think we can take a positive lead into Banquo’s chances by him sticking. Meets The Astrologists marginally better at the weights and can turn the tables here with added fitness 3rd up.
Randwick Race 7 – GROUP 2 Missile Stakes – 1200m
#1 Kolding – $4.80
Small field to do battle and Kolding gets in really well at the weights under the Set Weights and Penalties conditions of this race. Ran second in the Expressway when first up last prep. Love J Mac taking the ride and there shouldn’t be much speed in this. Can sit up on speed and I’m expecting the Group 1 All Aged Stakes winner to come back a winner.
Parramatta Eels ($3.25) VS South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.33) – Cbus Super Stadium
Parra looks like getting Moses back but will be without RCG, his loss will be heavily felt as he is crucial to their forward rotation. The Bunnies have coasted through games without being at their best, expect Wayne to have them firing on all cylinders for this. Murray a big inclusion.
Suggested Bet – South Sydney Rabbitohs -10 @ $2
New Zealand Warriors ($3.35) VS Cronulla Sharks ($1.32) – Cbus Super Stadium
The Sharks got ‘Turbo’d’ by Manly and can turn things around quite quickly here. They actually finished the game off well after the great man had a spell. The Warriors were flattered last week, and whilst they get some troops back, I’m not sure they can go with the Sharks.
Suggested Bet – Cronulla Sharks -9.5 @ $1.90
Geelong Cats ($1.13) VS GWS Giants ($6) – GMHBA Stadium
Assuming the travel to and from Tassie for last week’s lacklustre win hasn’t affected the Cats too much, this looks a game they can blow away back at Kardinia Park. The Giants have plenty to play for, but they have had the same motivation for a month now and only recorded the 1 win in that time. GWS have a poor record against top 6 teams and I’m expecting that to continue.
Suggested Bet – Geelong Cats -33.5 @ $2
Carlton ($1.24) VS Gold Coast Suns ($4.10) – Marvel Stadium
The Suns looked like they might have turned a corner about a month ago but that was firmly dismissed last week after an embarrassingly poor performance, managing just 30 points to Melbourne. It’s hard to see the Suns turning things around against a Carlton side that can still technically make the 8 (just ask their supporters haha)…
Suggested Bet – Carlton -25.5 @ $1.90
