Footy all over the place – Rosehill Winter Stakes Day Tips

July 10, 2020

The owner of a racehorse is angry because the horse he paid so much money for has yet to win a race, so he heads to the stable for a bit of one on one time with his high-priced star before his next jump.

“Listen buddy,” the man says, gently taking the horse by the harness and getting right close to his ear. “You’d better win this race today or you’ll be working the farm tomorrow .”

The horses line up in the gates, the starting gun sounds, and the gate is removed. All of the horses take off, except the owner’s horse. Turns out he is fast asleep in his starting pen.

The owner can’t even begin to get angry. He is just in disbelief. The horse eventually makes it back to the mounting yard, where the owner has only one thing on his mind“What the heck do you think you’re doing?” the owner says to the horse.

“I’m grabbing some rest,” says the horse. “I’ve gotta work the farm early tomorrow morning.”

Hawthorn will meet Collingwood tonight in Sydney with both fighting for their season outside the eight on the heels of two losses last week. The Pies are well familiar with this ground having lost to GWS a fortnight ago, likewise, the Hawks who suffered the same fate last week in a blowout 34-point loss. Hard to pick a winner on neutral ground, so we will back Total Points over 119.5 at $1.87

And on Saturday afternoon St Kilda will meet Fremantle and are on the hunt for 3 wins a row. The Dockers took care of Adelaide last week, but that’s pretty much stealing candy from a baby, and with the way the Saints are playing, combined with a 10-day break, we will have our hard-earned on St Kilda by 39 or less at $1.92.

The New Zealand Warrior will meet the Gold Coast Titans tonight in a battle to avoid the bottom of the ladder, with the Warriors looking to win 2 in a row for the first time in nearly a year. The Titans couldn’t put a whole game together last week and the inconsistency both crews show make this hard to pick a winner, so our coin will lob on Total Points Under 41.5 at $1.90 given it won’t be a clean affair.

Penrith will meet Cronulla tomorrow afternoon with the Sharks looking handy after 3 wins, with last weeks by a big margin. The Panthers faced a hard test but managed to flesh out a win to stay in touch with the 8. Both sides will be slightly undermanned due to injury, but history shows that they tend to have high scoring affairs, so we will back the Total Points Over 40.5 at $1.90.

We decided to get out of Victoria this week just to be safe and have focused on the Rosehill meeting. In the Winter Stakes feature, we like No.4 Turnbull. He has a habit of cocking up starts, but his last run where he nailed the jump convinced us he is on the up and up. while the softer ground will help too. All that point to the $3.90 on offer getting our nod. Our value bet of the day is R3, No 7 Chairmans Choice. Coming back from a 6-week break where he ran a strong second, he is dropping 4.5kgs from that start and looks more than handy bet at $9.00.
