The Guru is ready to fire on all cylinders in Round 16 and has likened his best bet to a “tuned up Ferrari racing a broken down old Volkswagen”. With their powerhouse “Twin Cam” engine returning this week he is adamant the Melbourne Storm will have way too much horsepower for a Manly side missing a much-needed Turbo. Ladbrokes have added the nitrous oxide and given all their lines a boost to $2. Get your motor runnin’!!

Suggested Bets:

3 units Melbourne Storm -12.5 @2.00

2 units Gold Coast Titans +10.0 @2.00

2 units Brisbane Broncos +25.5 @2.00

NRL Round 16 Match Previews

Parramatta Eels vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

Assessed Line: Eels -6.5

Ladbrokes: Eels -6.5

An enticing Thursday night clash featuring two teams bound for finals footy. The Eels have won 4 of their past 5, though doubts surround the strength of those wins, struggling to beat the Tigers, Bulldogs, Sharks, and, far from impressive against a Storm reserve grade outfit. Souths keep moving along nicely having won their past 4 matches, the latest a 40 point mauling of the battered Sea Eagles, though I’m always wary of teams facing a let down coming off such a huge win. The line is spot on.

St George Ill/Dragons vs Gold Coast Titans

Assessed Line: Dragons -7.5

Ladbrokes: Dragons -10.0

The Dragons sent former coach McGregor out a winner and welcomed new coach Young in the same fashion, though neither match was easy. They have a home ground advantage and own a dominant record against the Titans including the past 5 in a row by an average of 20 points. However, Ash Taylor is back and Mitch Rein returns in a boost for the away team, and I doubt the recent trend of blowouts will continue. Titans value at the plus.

Sydney Roosters vs Brisbane Broncos

Assessed Line: Roosters -20.5

Ladbrokes: Roosters -25.5

Thursday 4th June 2020: Roosters 59 Broncos 0. That match seems an eternity ago now but it’s one the Broncos will never forget. Incredibly things have gone from bad to worse since that fateful encounter at Suncorp and Brisbane has never fully recovered, coach Seibold FINALLY becoming their latest casualty. Now they must travel to the Roosters favoured SCG in what will be a daunting (and haunting) task. They will be keen on redemption and with such a big line, the Broncos have sucked me in again.

New Zealand Warriors vs Newcastle Knights

Assessed Line: Warriors +6.0

Ladbrokes: Warriors +6.0

Two of the most evenly matched teams in the history of the NRL clash at Scully Park, Tamworth to commence Saturday’s proceedings. Overall, Newcastle holds a slim 21-20 advantage with 1 draw, and both sides have split the last 6 contests three apiece. No reason to believe this game won’t be close either but not enough meat on the bone to have a wager.

Cronulla Sharks vs North Qld Cowboys

Assessed Line: Sharks -11.5

Ladbrokes: Sharks -11.5

A tough road trip for the Cowboys this week, having to face a Sharks outfit who welcome back key playmaker and new father Shaun Johnson plus the possibility of a rampaging Fifita who has been named in the reserves. Cronulla holds the long term edge over North Qld including wins in 8 of their past 10 clashes. Without Taumalolo, I doubt the Cowboys can possibly reverse such a trend. This is a must-win clash for Cronulla’s top 8 prospects and they should comfortably outscore their opponents, even with Valentine Holmes named to return for the Cowboys.

Penrith Panthers vs Wests Tigers

Assessed Line: Panthers -11.5

Ladbrokes: Panthers -12.0

On face value, a seemingly unstoppable Panthers team on a 10 game winning streak should easily account for a very disappointing Tigers side who have been awful the past 5 rounds, losing all their matches bar a lucky escape against the lowly Bulldogs. On top of that, the Tigers have only won 2 of their past 10 against the Panthers and will have to travel to Penrith Stadium for this one. However, Penrith loses 2 of their big guns in Kikau and Koroisau whilst rising gun Harry Grant a huge in for Wests. No confidence to bet.

Melbourne Storm vs Manly Sea Eagles

Assessed Line: Storm -16.0

Ladbrokes: Storm -12.5

Since their horrendous injury toll began, Manly have been playing desperate footy for almost 2 months and it finally told last week when they were thumped by 40 against Souths. Things don’t get any easier this week having to face a Storm side who welcome back Smith and Munster plus the underrated Jahrome Hughes. Over the years this has been a hard-fought, bruising encounter but in recent times Melbourne has gained the ascendency winning 6 of the last 8 and again without Tom Trbojevic Manly face no chance of an upset. Melbourne BEST BET of the round.

Canberra Raiders vs Canterbury Bulldogs

Assessed Line: Raiders -16.5

Ladbrokes: Raiders -17.5

A near-impossible task for the Bulldogs who, coming off another poor loss, now face a tough road trip to the nation’s capital in the late Sunday game. It’s been a close contest between these teams over the years but Canberra has established a good record against the Dogs lately, winning 5 of their past 6 clashes. A massive shake-up to the Bulldogs team won’t help and this is another recent trend that doesn’t look to be ending in round 16. Raiders comfortably but no significant edge to bet.

Good luck and great punting,
