Rosehill race 1 – Open Handicap – 1200m
#12 Sir Crackle – $5/$1.90
Had trialled really well leading into his racing debut where he was caught wide on a heavy track. Gets gate 1 here on an improving surface and maps to get the run of the race. Looks a great each way bet to start the day.
Rosehill race 4 – July Sprint – 1100m
#3 Isaurian – $3.20 (Also nommed in Melbourne)
This looks like a perfect race for him 2nd up after running well behind Astrologist in Melbourne 1st up. J Mac takes the steer which looks a good guide to his chances and looks well placed considering he brings Listed form into this Open Handicap. This is his race to win.
Rosehill race 7 – LISTED Winter Challenge – 1500m
#2 Countofmontecristo – $6/$2.15
Interesting runner in this. Ex Singapore galloper having his 3rd run in Aus for new trainer Kris Lees. 1st up over a shorter trip he found the line well, then at the last start, he trucked into the race before being eased to the line after not handling the heavy ground. The key here is J Mac sticks, he gets out to 1500m, gets good ground (all his form has been on good tracks) and gets gate 1. Expecting big improvement.
Caulfield race 4 – BM90 Handicap – 1100m
#6 Miss Albania – $$2.70
Handy mare having won 3 from her 5 career starts. Put a hat trick of wins together before being narrowly beaten by La Mexicana, who she meets significantly better at the weights in this. Two jump outs in preparation for this have been outstanding and she looks set to improve on her already impressive record.
Caulfield race 8 – Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes – 1200m
#1 Streets Of Avalon – $8/$2.50
#6 Secret Blaze – $61/$11
The main play in this race will be Streets Of Avalon. The last time he was fresh he won the Group 2 Australia stakes over 1200m beating Viridine. Trial was super in the lead up to this and can roll forward and make his own luck. Secret Blaze will go around massive odds and although he’ll be much better suited over further, I won’t be shocked to see him run really well fresh. I’d be filthy if he ran into a place and I wasn’t on.
Parramatta Eels ($1.19) VS Canberra Raiders ($4.60) – CBUS Super Stadium
Parra are without halfback Mitch Moses again and ironically I think that helps, their attack will flow off hooker Reed Mahoney and we saw when they played direct last week, they looked pretty slick. Canberra have injury concerns of their own and their pack looks up against it in this. It won’t be pretty but Parra can cover.
Suggested Bet – Parramatta -15.5 @ $2
North Queensland Cowboys ($14) VS Melbourne Storm ($1.02) – Queensland Country Bank Stadium
This Cowboys backline is like the betting in the last at Gloucester Park trots – it stinks! The Storm have overcome any and all hurdles all season and no reason they can’t rack up the points again.
Suggested Bet – Melbourne Storm -30.5 @ $2
Brisbane Lions ($1.22) VS Gold Coast Suns ($4.25) – Gabba
The 21st edition of the QClash and normally it is one way traffic for Brisbane in these clashes having won 5 straight against the Suns, but the Lions have been off the pace lately and the Suns pushed the Bulldogs all the way last weekend. I like what the Suns have done recently and they can win!
Suggested Bet – Gold Coast Suns +27.5 @ $1.90 and have something on them to win @ $4.25
West Coast Eagles ($1.45) VS St Kilda ($2.80) – Optus Stadium
These two met in round 4 where St Kilda overturned a 33 point third quarter deficit to go on and win. Both are in desperate need of a win and the crucial 4 points. I like West Coast back at home and with the Saints losing Rowan Marshall (Tier 1 exposure site), it only makes things tougher.
Suggested Bet – West Coast Eagles -14.5 @ $1.90
The Matildas have kicked off their campaign with a win in the soccer but most of the action heats up from next week after the opening ceremony. We’re a patriotic bunch here at Punt Club and couldn’t help but have something on the overs in the gold medal and number of medals in Ladbrokes specials market (click the link to check them out!).
Suggested Bet – Total Medals (Total number of gold medals for Australia) – Over 12.5 @ $1.80 & Total Medals (Total number of medals for Australia) – Over 39.5 @ $1.80
