NRL Round 18 – Punt Club

NRL Round 18

July 16, 2021

PVL said he would be expanding the game in South East Queensland and he’s come good on that promise… with ALL teams now based in SEQ. Expecting a few teams to really struggle with this set up and away from families, predicting which ones will be tough, but could make us an earn.

Ladbrokes have $2 lines for Friday’s double header – Time to take on the Lads at Ladbrokes.

Friday

Gold Coast Titans ($2.40) VS Parramatta Eels ($1.57) – CBUS Super Stadium

Gold Coast are big beneficiaries of the relocation and will be largely unaffected. Parra get the return of in form hooker Reed Mahoney from injury. Should be a really good battle, with two big packs that will play physically. The Titans have really struggled to string 80 mins together all season and that leans me towards the Eels. The last 20 mins looks like a worry for Gold Coast.

Suggested Bet – Parramatta -4.5 @ $2

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.24) VS St George Illawarra Dragons ($4.10) – CBUS Super Stadium

Manly were humbled by the Raiders last game when having to do battle without Turbo and DCE, they get their halfback back but will be without their star fullback. The Dragons have had a tumultuous time since their comeback win over the Warriors and I’m expecting the adversity to lift them. I don’t think there is much between these two tonight.

Suggested Bet – St George Illawarra Dragons +14 @ $2

Saturday

North Queensland Cowboys ($3.30) VS Sydney Roosters ($1.33) – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Fair to say both these two are struggling at present – The Roosters barely beat the Doggies and the Cows are well…the Cows. Val will miss this clash but that likely sees Asi return to the side and he looked ok in attack in patches, the less said about his defence the better though. I’m going to give the Cows one last chance here, mainly because I think the Roosters are struggling.

Suggested Bet – North Queensland Cowboys +10.5 @ $1.90

Canberra Raiders ($2.02) VS Cronulla Sharks ($1.78) – CBUS Super Stadium

There’s rumours around that Shaun Johnson is carrying a knee injury (he didn’t kick for goal last week) and I have to question how well the Sharks will perform with the relocation to QLD. The Raiders were shock winners against Manly last fixture and they might have shrugged off their early season woes. Up the milk!

Suggested Bet – Canberra Raiders @ $2.02

Melbourne Storm ($1.11) VS Newcastle Knights ($6.40) – CBUS Super Stadium

Melbourne were priming for a return to AAMI Park this weekend but have had to flee the Melbourne lockdown and find themselves back in QLD. No shock the Knights have shown improvement with a fully fit spine and Ponga showed why he is so highly regarded with a dominant Origin performance. Whilst they might not win, the Knights can be competitive.

Suggested Bet – Newcastle Knights +17.5 @ $1.90

Sunday

New Zealand Warriors ($3.05) VS Penrith Panthers ($1.38) – Suncorp Stadium

The poor old Warriors are again the hardest team hit by the latest wave of Rona. They were scheduled to return home but will now stay in QLD for who knows how long. The Panthers will still be without their star halves and they have fallen back to the pack without them. The Warriors have really struggled to play out a full 80 mins but they should keep this close for long enough.

Suggested bet – New Zealand Warriors +8 @ $1.90

Brisbane Broncos ($1.72) VS Wests Tigers ($2.10) – Suncorp Stadium

It’s a funny old game Rugba Leeg. Brisbane looked dead and gone a few weeks ago but with the return of Katoni Staggs, playing at home, and the appointment of Ben ‘Hitch’ Ikin – they look to have turned a corner. They can do a number on a Tigers side that might not turn up at all.

Suggested Bet – Brisbane Broncos -2 @ $1.90

South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.05) VS Canterbury Bulldogs ($9.75) – CBUS Super Stadium

26 point line looks about right to me. Wayne is likely to take the foot off the gas late and rest Mitchell and Cook in the second half, assuming the game is over by then. I expect the Bunnies to be dominant but with the worry around the last 20 mins, I’m happy to avoid the line. Someone who will play 80 on their dominant left side is Cody Walker and we’ll back him to score.

Suggested Bet – Cody Walker anytime tryscorer @ $2.20
