NRL Round 19 – Punt Club

NRL Round 19

July 22, 2021

We enter round 19 and the 2nd week of the SEQ bubble. There’s a few sides gearing up for finals footy whilst a few have already got Mad Monday on their minds. It wouldn’t be the NRL these days without some blow outs and there’s only 1 game the markets are expecting to be close.

Ladbrokes have $2 lines for Thursday’s and Friday’s games – who doesn’t love a big line on a Friday…

Parramatta Eels ($1.19) VS Canberra Raiders ($4.60) – CBUS Super Stadium

Parra are without halfback Mitch Moses again and ironically I think that helps, their attack will flow off hooker Reed Mahoney and we saw when they played direct last week, they looked pretty slick. Canberra have injury concerns of their own and their pack looks up against it in this. It won’t be pretty but Parra can cover.

Suggested Bet – Parramatta -15.5 @ $2

Sydney Roosters ($1.28) VS Newcastle Knights ($3.60) – Sunshine Coast Stadium

Ponga has been named but there must be some doubt on whether he plays after suffering a concussion that ended his game last week. I don’t think the Roosters are going too well but like last week, they get a great match up here to get the job done again. Another game that won’t be pretty but the Chooks can cover.

Suggested Bet – Sydney Roosters -11.5 @ $2

North Queensland Cowboys ($14) VS Melbourne Storm ($1.02) – Queensland Country Bank Stadium

This Cowboys backline is like the betting in the last at Gloucester Park trots – it stinks! The Storm have overcome any and all hurdles all season and no reason they can’t rack up the points again.

Suggested Bet – Melbourne Storm -30.5 @ $2

South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.14) VS New Zealand Warriors ($5.75) – Sunshine Coast Stadium

The Bunnies are a side that can look awful some weeks and that was them last week against the Dogs. The Warriors suffered multiple injuries during the game last week and I am happy to forgive them. The evolution of Reece Walsh continues and if Souths are off their game again ever so slightly, the Warriors can keep them honest.

Suggested Bet – New Zealand Warriors +18.5 @ $1.90

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.13) VS Wests Tigers ($5.75) – Suncorp Stadium

Manly gets back to full strength and the Tigers will know they are in a game, they aren’t playing the Broncos this week. Manly will be keen to build some momentum for finals footy and this could get ugly.

Suggested Bet – Manly Sea Eagles -19.5 @ $1.90

Penrith Panthers ($1.11) VS Brisbane Broncos ($6.50) – Suncorp Stadium

If Brisbane bring their 2nd half performance into this they may as well stay at Caxton Street and sink cans. Brisbane might be celebrating the Olympics in 2032 and it might take that long before their football team wins another game.

Suggested bet – Penrith Panthers -20.5 @ $1.90

St George Illawarra ($2.50) VS Gold Coast Titans ($1.53) – CBUS Super Stadium

Two really inconsistent and poor teams. One thing separates these teams and this is David Fifita. He gets to run at a few soft bodies and his ability to break tackles and make things happen from nothing, might just be the difference.

Suggested Bet – Gold Coast Titans -5.5 @ $1.90

Canterbury Bulldogs ($3.90) VS Cronulla Sharks ($1.25) – CBUS Super Stadium

The Doggies nearly pulled a rabbit out of the hat last week (see what I did there?)  It is amazing in rugby league how often a side that looks gone announces a few signings and puts players on notice, and they start to lift. If last week wasn’t a fluke they can be competitive in this.

Suggested Bet – Canterbury Bulldogs +12.5 @ $1.90
