NRL Round 22 – Punt Club

NRL Round 22

August 11, 2021

What an open competition we have, the longest priced favourite this round is $1.57 and 5 games with a $1.30 or less favourite…haha!

Ladbrokes have their usual $2 lines for Thursday night’s clash and Friday’s double header from Suncorp Stadium. Let’s get amongst it!

Thursday

Melbourne Storm ($1.05) VS Canberra Raiders ($10) – Sunshine Coast Stadium

The Raiders have really struggled in attack, it’s really hard to see them scoring too many points against the Storm. Melbourne, on the other hand, seem to be able to score at will and they are only getting stronger with big Nelson joining Grant and Papi on the bench.

Suggested Bet – Melbourne Storm -24.5 @ $2

Friday

St George Illawarra Dragons ($6.50) VS Penrith Panthers ($1.12) – Suncorp Stadium

Penrith will be without their hooker, Api, who copped a one match suspension. They have struggled without him and Cleary steering the attack previously, but something tells me Cleary might get a late call up. Even if he doesn’t, Penrith should be able to account for a Dragons side that has lost 4 straight after the infamous Vaughan BBQ.

Suggested Bet – Penrith Panthers -18.5 @ $2

Brisbane Broncos ($4.25) VS Sydney Roosters ($1.22) – Suncorp Stadium

The Roosters season is hanging by a thread and they will be desperate for a win, but Brisbane might prove a tougher obstacle than the market suggests. Playing at Suncorp with a 50% capacity crowd is another plus for the Broncs. They can cause an upset here.

Suggested Bet – Brisbane Broncos +14 @ $2

Saturday

South Sydney Rabbitohs ($1.16) VS Gold Coast Titans ($5.40) – Cbus Super Stadium

This game has points written all over it. The Bunnies score at will and neither team has defended overly well in recent weeks. Points, points, points and more points!

Suggested Bet – Total Match Points Over 54.5 @ $1.90

North Queensland Cowboys ($2.40) VS Wests Tigers ($1.57) – QLD Country Bank Stadium

Another game where I’m happy to pile into the overs. Neither team is renowned for their defence and whilst they don’t possess the greatest attacking halves, there should be plenty of errors and gaps in defence to allow plenty of attacking play.

Suggested bet – Total Match Points Over 53.5 @ $1.90

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.20) VS Parramatta Eels ($4.60) – Sunshine Coast Stadium

Manly are one of the in form teams in the comp. The key to their success in this will be winning the forwards battle in the middle of the field before looking to shift the ball. If they can overcome the early arm wrestle, they will go on and win this well. I’ll back them to do it.

Suggested Bet – Manly Sea Eagles -14 @ $1.90

Sunday

New Zealand Warriors ($1.33) VS Canterbury Bulldogs ($3.35) – Moreton Daily Stadium, Redcliffe

The Warriors had every reason to throw in the towel for the remainder of the season but they have battled on bravely. The Dogs are a complete mess and that’s only made worse with the suspensions of their 2 front rowers. It is a dangerous proposition backing the Warriors when favourites, but I like to live dangerously!

Suggested Bet – New Zealand Warriors -8.5 @ $1.90

Cronulla Sharks ($2.75) VS Newcastle Knights ($1.46) – Moreton Daily Stadium, Redcliffe

The second game of the double header from Redcliffe. I am a shade weary of the finishing abilities of both sides, but I am keen to go into the overs as there looks to be plenty of attacking opportunities. I’m not keen to back either team’s defence on their goal line.

Suggested Bet – Total Match Points Over 49.5 @ $1.90
