NRL Round 9 – Punt Club

NRL Round 9

May 5, 2021

Spare a thought for poor old Josh ‘Moose’ McGuire, he’s played 7 games this year, 4 with the Cows and 3 with the Dragons and he’s yet to taste success. Talk about cursed! Can Sunday be his lucky day?

Don’t forget Ladbrokes are offering $2 lines on Thursday’s and Friday’s games.

South Sydney Rabbitohs ($3.30) VS Melbourne Storm ($1.33) – Stadium Australia

Souths are crippled with injuries and still without the suspended Mitchell. The Storm are practically full strength besides Papenhuyzen. Both teams love to attack and whilst Souths might be down on troops, I expect their left side to be unchanged with Hawkins replacing Reynolds. The total has trimmed up and looks pretty skinny in a game that looks set to open up.

Suggested Bet – Total match points over 38 @ $1.90

Penrith Panthers ($1.09) VS Cronulla Sharks ($7.25) – BlueBet Stadium

Penrith have looked to play well within themselves the last few rounds. This is a game they should be able to control for the most part, but they have only scored more than 30 points on one occasion this season, and only once in the last 4 matches have they won by more than 18 points. If the Sharks can jag a try or two, they can cover an 18 point line.

Suggested Bet – Cronulla Sharks +18 @ $2

Parramatta Eels ($1.57) VS Sydney Roosters ($2.40) – Bankwest Stadium

Expecting a few late changes to both sides. Expect Parra to muscle up and bang down the front door and enjoy plenty of easy metres through the middle third and capitalise on plenty of attacking raids. The Roosters might get out muscled in the middle but Sam Walker will relish being able to team up with Tedesco again. Their combination can ensure the Roosters get across the line a few times against a Parra side who can leak tries on their edges.

Suggested Bet – Total match points over 42.5 @ $1.90

Canberra Raiders ($1.48) VS Newcastle Knights ($2.60) – McDonalds Park, Wagga Wagga

It’s really hard to predict how either of these two sides will perform. The one thing we do know is with Adam Gee reffing this will be a fast game with plenty of repeat sets, and that might set this game up for Kalyn Ponga to really dominate against some tired Raiders forwards.

Suggested Bet – Anytime try scorer – Kalyn Ponga @ $2.40

Wests Tigers ($2.55) VS Gold Coast Titans ($1.52) – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

The Tigers bounced back last week overcoming the rubble of a Dragons side, whilst the Titans somehow managed to blow a 22 point lead to the Broncos. Big Tino is back for the Titans and he’ll make a big difference to this side. Expect the one man wrecking ball David Fifita to see more of the footy and we’ll back him to muscle his way over the line.

Suggested Bet – Anytime Try Scorer – David Fifita @ $2.70

North Queensland Cowboys ($1.52) VS Brisbane Broncos ($2.55) – QLD Country Bank Stadium

There doesn’t look to be a lot of creativity in either of these two sides and this could develop into a real slugfest with both forward packs trading blows, and both teams going set for set.

Suggested bet – Total match points under 44.5 @ $1.90

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.48) VS New Zealand Warriors ($2.60) – Lottoland

Manly were very brave against the Panthers last week but their forward pack has taken another hit with both Aloiai and Tapau out. The Warriors have ripped in and tried the full 80 mins every game this year and if they turn up with the same attitude, they can pinch this one.

Suggested bet – New Zealand Warriors +6 @ $1.90

St George Illawarra Dragons ($1.28) VS Canterbury Bulldogs ($3.70) – Netstrata Jubilee Stadium

The Dragons were woeful last week, of course they were, I was on the minus! If the lawn needs mowing or the sink needs fixing, do it whilst this game is on. If you’re like me and would like a financial interest in the game, take the unders and just stare at the clock for 80 minutes.

Suggested bet – Total match points under 42.5 @ $1.90
