Survived ‘The Bool’ – Now bring on the weekend

May 6, 2021

Wagga Race 7 – Listed Wagga Wagga Cup – 2000m
#7 Knights Order – $18/$4.80

Gai has had a full prep to work this bloke out now, trialled pretty well against good sprinters and I’m expecting a big run fresh. Should roll forward and make its own luck. Gets a 5kg swing on Yonkers from when they met on Cup Day last year when not beaten far. Each way.

Gold Coast Race 7 – G3 Gold Coast Guineas – 1200m
#6 Immortal Love – $9/$3.10

Third up and fit he finds his way from the cold of Melbourne to the sunny warmth of the Gold Coast. Nash takes the sit and from gate 1 he should get a lovely run. The Melbourne form has stacked up in Adelaide through Minhaaj and Litchfield County, it can stack up here too.

Gold Coast Race 8 – G2 A.D Hollindale Stakes – 1800m
#1 Fifty Stars $8
#3 Homesman $11

Backing the Australian Cup form from back in March to be the best formline coming into this. Homesman went into beast mode when winning that day, covered ground without cover and was still too strong. Fifty Stars started favourite there and can be a hard horse to catch but with Pike on and really good late splits last start, he can run well.

Morphettville Race 7 – G1 South Australian derby – 2500m
#9 Nobel Heights – $17/$4.40

Tricky affair. There doesn’t look to be a lot of speed on paper but when you race for big coin they usually go at it a long way from home. Most have either been up a while or travel from interstate, one that has had a run in Adelaide and looks set to peak is Nobel Heights. Should race much handier to the speed and looks an out and out stayer. Looks the one over the odds.

Morphettville Race 8 – Listed Adelaide Guineas – 1600m
#3 Casino Seventeen – $9

Massive run last start when forced to cover ground and only beaten late. Gets a jockey upgrade from Crowther to Oliver and should roll forward from the wide alley in a race where there doesn’t look to be much speed. Will give them all something to catch.

South Sydney Rabbitohs ($3.30) VS Melbourne Storm ($1.33) – Stadium Australia

Souths are crippled with injuries and still without the suspended Mitchell. The Storm are practically full strength besides Papenhuyzen. Both teams love to attack and whilst Souths might be down on troops, I expect their left side to be unchanged with Hawkins replacing Reynolds. The total has trimmed up and looks pretty skinny in a game that looks set to open up.

Suggested Bet – Total match points over 36 @ $1.90

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.48) VS New Zealand Warriors ($2.60) – Lottoland

Manly were very brave against the Panthers last week but their forward pack has taken another hit with both Aloiai and Tapau out. The Warriors have ripped in and tried the full 80 mins every game this year and if they turn up with the same attitude, they can pinch this one.

Suggested bet – New Zealand Warriors +6 @ $1.90

Gold Coast Suns ($1.87) VS St Kilda ($1.95) – Metricon Stadium

These two teams often play in tightly contested affairs, in fact out of their last 4 matchups, the winner has been decided by 4 points or less. At home, I favour the Suns and we’ll back them to get the job done in a close one.

Suggested Bet – Winning Margin 1-24 – Gold Coast Suns to win by 1-24 @ $3.35

North Melbourne ($3.50) VS Collingwood ($1.30) – Marvel Stadium

To be fair to the Kangas, who I have been quite cruel to previously, they have slowly been improving, covering the line last week against Melbourne. Collingwood is yet to show much this season and only have 1 more win than North Melbourne. Dare i say it, but could this be an upset?

Suggested Bet – North Melbourne +22.5 @ $1.90
